I use this drive on a Toshiba 10 inch netbook, works fine using only one USB port. First generation laptops were only designed for low power devices like a mouse, later and current laptops have enough power to drive external drives. LG GP10NB20 Portable 8X Slim DVD+/-RW External Drive (Black)

Item comes with a dual head USB cable but I just plugged one into the PC and left the second USB head just hanging out. Still plays/burns great. Only used it a few times so far and it worked well.
